Guilford, Conn – The second ECEL showcase of the year was a huge success. In the 16U division Atlanta Fire stayed near perfect, losing in a shootout to Ontario Hockey Academy in the last game of the weekend. 2nd place Wilmington Nighthawks had a strong second showcase finishing off the weekend 6-2 only losing to Atlanta Fire in a close 2-1 game. The NY Saints put together 4 very strong games despite splitting the weekend 2-2 both losses were one goal games against the #1 Atlanta Fire and #2 Wilmington Nighthawks. Rounding out the 16U division the Cyclones strung together 3 wins on the weekend losing to the NY saints on Friday. Finally Ontario Hockey Academy got their first two league wins beating out guest team 95 Giants and coming out on top in a shootout against first place Atlanta Fire.
In the 18U division NH Mountain Kings lost their first game of the weekend to guest South Kent School and then rallied the rest of weekend firing off 3 wins against CJR, 95 Giants and Northern Cyclones. Second place Cyclones grabbed a shootout win in the first game of the weekend vs the 95 giants but had lost the following 3 to very strong teams in close games. League newcomer CT Jr Rangers put up a 2-2 record in their first showcase. Losing their first 2 games to OHA and the Mountain Kings but coming ahead in their last 2 defeating the Cyclones and 95 giants to cap the weekend. Ontario Hockey Academy also went 2-2 this weekend defeating league members CT Jr Rangers and 95 Giants but falling to weekend guests South Kent School and Boston Hockey Academy.
The weekend was an overall success with 6 of the games going into overtime. 3 of which lead to a shootout. The 3rd and final showcase of the Winter Classic will be a test for teams to see who comes out on top before heading into playoff weekend in February. We wanted to thank all the teams that participated this weekend including weekend guests. The weekend would not have been such a success without you.
